Care Guide for Your Exotic Natural Stone
Your new countertop or fireplace is an investment meant to last a lifetime. With just a little care, your Brazilian exotic natural stone will stay beautiful for decades.
Daily Cleaning
A few daily habits will keep your stone impeccable.
Care & Maintenance
- Use mild soap & warm water — or a pH-neutral stone cleaner.
- Wipe spills quickly, especially wine, coffee, lemon, tomato, or vinegar.
- To disinfect, use a 50/50 mix of water and isopropyl alcohol.
Tip: A soft microfiber cloth is gentle
and streak-free.
Looking Ahead
- Avoid harsh chemicals, bleach, or abrasive pads.
- Use cutting boards to protect your knives from hitting the surface.
Specific Care by Stone Type
Always ask your fabricator about sealing and what kind of sealing they use, so you know when to reapply.
Granite & Quartzite
- Sealing: Needs sealing to prevent stains.
- Heat: Handles very high heat, but avoid thermal shock.
Marble
- Sealing: Needs sealing to prevent stains.
- Heat: Moderate heat safe but always use trivets.
- Etching: Sealing reduces stains but doesn’t stop etching.
Soapstone
- Sealing: Does not need sealing. Apply mineral oil for a darker look.
- Heat: Handles very high heat, no protection needed.
Quartz (Engineered)
- Sealing: Does not require sealing.
- Heat: Only safe up to ~300°F — use hot pads.
💡 Check if it’s time to reseal
Sprinkle water on the surface. If it beads up, the sealer is working. If it doesn't bead, it's time to reseal.
Maintenance & Tips
- Polished: Wipe daily; reseal when water no longer beads.
- Honed: Soft matte look; may need more frequent sealing.
- Leathered / Brushed / Antiqued: Textured, hides fingerprints, easy to clean.
- Small chips/scratches: Your fabricator can often fill and polish them.
- Soapstone: Light scratches can be sanded and oiled.
- Heavy wear: Professional refinishing restores shine or texture.
- Excellent choices: Granite, Quartzite & Soapstone are great for outdoor kitchens.
- Avoid Quartz: Can fade and warp under UV light.
